yh he is a football legend, but its still sad how he gets honoured so much by soo many people making such a big deal for a kicking a ball around, dont get me wrong, im a huge football fan and play for a club myself but i think more attention should be paid to soldiers etc

Never saw this when it was on TV but so glad I have now. Always thought he was lovely, and always will. What a true gentleman he was when receiving this award unlike some of the weirdos that comment on here.

@The0087 Without him you would’nt see England in the 2002 world cup , he made football more popular then ever , everyone was insipred to shoot a ball so finely like he did in terms of football he inspired a long new generation of aspiring footballers in a propey way rather then that crap C. Ronaldo that made my fat friend start diving even when we play on the street do you think he deserved that award more then Becks does even if he go on to have sucessful World Cups?

My favourite bit is his son’s (don’t know which one) smile at 6.35, he seems so happy. I know David is a world-class footballer, but for me, the valour and dignity with which he conducts himself and his unwavering adherence to family values and his honour of his country above all, in a culture which does nothing to promote these things shows that he is a WORLD-CLASS MAN, a living legend and an amazing role model for all men and people out there.

comparing to the award, the moment all his family and friends, mates and compatitors, juniors and seniors stoodup and applause for him has better value, or indeed invalueable. how much athletics deserve that ? i guess David Beckham is one of them

I totally cried! :’) Beautiful speech and what a great guy he is! It was so cute to see his family in the audience. I love what he said about Victoria and how she was crying… He really deserved it!

@The0087 Beckham was incredibly successful. Listen to the clubs he has played for. Look at what he won in the domestic and european leagues. But forgetting that, he has been a fantastic ambassador for this country. He got to where he is today by sheer hard work, passion and determination. I could think of no one who deserves this award more. I am not a Man Utd fan, or linked to any of Beckham’s clubs. I just like football. And Beckham has been the greatest role model of this generation.

I guess the BBC use a different barometer to measure success, sure he is nice man with a lot of wealth, healthy family etc. But was has he actually achieved in terms of football, 3-4 world cup failures and 3-4 Euro cup failures, and that is an acheivment???? Incredible…..
