DAVID BECKHAM: PSG CAREER REVIEWED

An ageing David Beckham made a surprise move to French club Paris Saint Germain (PSG) during the 2013 winter transfer window. It was announced on January 31, 2013 that David Beckham would be having a medical at PSG ahead of his move to the club. He penned a five-month deal at PSG after passing his medicals and thereafter said that his salary would go to a local charity for children.


PSG fans had to wait for over three weeks to see David Beckham in action. He came off the substitutes bench for the final 14 minutes of the home clash with rivals Marseille in the French Ligue 1 to become the 400th player to represent the capital club. His PSG debut was on February 24, 2013. David Beckham won a fourth different league title as part of the PSG squad that won the French Ligue 1 title by beating Lyon 1-0 at the end of the 2012/13 season. The Lyon game was played on May 12, 2013. Four days later, David Beckham announced that he would hang up his boots at the end of the season. He had previously won league titles in Spain, England and Italy.

Beckham was given a specially designed football boots following his decision to retire at the end of his time at PSG. The boots were designed in the colours of the Union Jack and he was meant to wear it on the occasion of his final game as a professional footballer. The football boots had the names of his kids plus wife on them.

David Beckham played professional football for the final time in front of the home fans at PSG in the league game against Brest on May 18, 2013. He assisted the goal scored by Frenchman Blaise Matuidi before going off to a standing ovation as the team captain for the day on 80 minutes. PSG won the game 3-1.
