Former Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that Toby Alderweireld will move to Manchester United during the January transfer window. He said that Toby Alderweireld is one of the best defenders in the world at the moment and that United will want to get him at a cheaper price.
Indeed Jose Mourinho was keen to sign the player during the transfer window but unfortunately for him, he could not finalize the deal. Jermaine Jenas believes that Manchester United was not willing to pay £60million for a player that they know that they can get at £25m.
England soccer legend David Beckham has backed the national team to reach the World Cup final. The MLS club owner is predicting that the Three Lions would meet La Albiceleste in the final in Russia 2018.
The former England skipper led the national team to the 2006 World Cup where they reached the last eight. Argentina, who have messed up several finals in recent times, were the finalists in 2014 inspired by Lionel Messi. Beckham feels they can still make this year’s final despite their poor showing in their first group fixture against Iceland. They play Croatia on Thursday before Nigeria next week.
Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane claims that his former United teammates like Ryan Giggs and David Beckham will probably worth around billions in this transfer market.
Keane has witnessed several players costing in excess of £ 50 million, while the summer transfer window has already witnessed two signings about £ 100 million. Neymar has become the world’s most expensive player by moving to Paris St Germain for around £ 196 million. The era of inflated transfer fees has been mainly fuelled by the growth in television money. A few decades ago, it was a huge surprise to see the world’s first £ 10 million player.
Keane now says that in this transfer market Giggs and Beckham would cost in the billions given their value to their respective clubs. He says that Beckham would cost around £ 1 billion while Ryan Giggs would be valued at around £ 2 billion. Both players enjoyed immensely successful careers for different reasons. Continue reading
The former star of Manchester United and retired footballer David Beckham has made headlines around the world as he still continues being at the spotlight but this time it was because of a motorcycle which occurred after the Englishman lost control of custom-built Super Vintage 93″ Knuckle and the bike finished up in the middle of Sunset Boulevard after Beckham had left the popular Shamrock Tattoo studio.
According to reports it is believed that David Beckham was trying to avoid paparazzi and ultimately caused him on not being able to keep the motorcycle under his control which finished up with Beckham being bandaged on his left arm but it was nothing too serious.
After he crashed down and managed to get back up to his feet, Beckham went on calling a few of his friends from the nearby tattoo parlour which helped him move the bike away from the street.
This is not the first time that retired football player has gone through a similar incident as he also crashed his Range Rover last year but also managed to escape the accident without facing any severe consequences or injuries, however there was another car crash occasion that came as a shock involving Beckham and his 15 year old son Brooklyn as both of them were in a car during rush hour on one of Los Angeles’ busiest highways back in 2011 and this incident ended up with a multiple car pile-up but Beckham and his son managed to escape it unharmed.
Since announcing his retirement from playing competitive football, Beckham has been focusing on establishing the Major League Soccer team he bought for $25 million which is expected to begin playing in 2016 or 2017, all of this depends on how fast the stadium can be built as the Englishman has recently been facing a number of setbacks.
Darren Fletcher has finally managed on getting back on form as he is recovered from the physical problem and bowel conditions which have been forcing him to stay out of the pitch for a substantially long period of time.
With the arrival of Louis van Gaal to Old Trafford, a lot of changes are expected to be done as the Dutch manager wants to avoid another disastrous season. The Scottish midfielder, Darren Fletcher admitted that this upcoming season will be crucial for him on and his future at the Premier League club.
Now that Darren Fletcher is able to play once more, he has a tough task ahead of him as he has to prove himself again in order to get a spot in the first team of Louis van Gaal.
Fletcher revealed just how important the pre-season will be not only for himself but for his teammates as well as he spoke to reporters: “Players always talk about how important pre-season is and I haven’t been in a position to do pre-season for about three years, so I’m dead excited about it. It almost brings you back to a level playing field with everyone else and you’re back at the same time as everyone else, rather than playing catch-up all season, which can be difficult’’.
“It’s the ideal scenario for me. I’m really looking forward to building up my fitness base as best as I can. Knowing a big part of my game is based on fitness, this pre-season will be vital for me for the season ahead. We’re all in the same position as we all need to impress the new manager and I’m no different’’
Having suffered such a long time out of the playing grounds will definitely make it harder and longer for Fletcher to make his return and comeback into the first team and it will be even more difficult considering that Louis van Gaal has already signed new players and has a few more targets he wants to sign before the summer transfer window concludes.
Hull City’s star man Tom Huddlestone has said that the club needs to improve its form away from home in order to stay in the Premier league. The newly promoted outfit suffered a defeat against Southampton, who are flying high in the league. Their opponents on the night were promoted themselves only last season, but they have done extremely well after some prudent signings. Huddlestone believes that Hull City should follow the example of Southampton, but first and foremost, they should improve approach to games away from home.
There have been cases where Hull City have been extremely lucky to drop points with the defeat against Tottenham especially a case in point. The team suffered a late controversial penalty and were defeated 1-0 by Spurs. Despite such defeats, they are comfortable on the table right now in the 13th place. However, they are just four points above the relegation zone and it will not take a long time before they get sucked into this relegation dogfight if results do not improve. They have managed just one win in the last five matches, which is starting to worry Huddlestone.
“I think we maybe need to go into games with more of a belief to try and implement our own style on away games. Once we’d gone 3-0 down on Saturday, we started to play more and we were a lot more confident on the ball. We have to look at ourselves individually and collectively and know that we need to be better if we want to pick up points away from home,” said the former Tottenham midfielder, who is an important member of the team.
Southampton managed to beat them 4-1 on the night. Their only victory in the last five matches came against bottom of the table Sunderland at home.
Lucas Moura and Ezequiel Lavezzi both are getting frustrated by not being regular starters for PSG. They are not the preferred choices of the new coach Laurent Blanc and now they are not sure about their future with the French club.
The Brazilian Lucas Mouras has made 11 out of his 21 appearances for his club as a substitute player and to make matters ever worse he was not taken into consideration by Luiz Felipe Scolari in Brazil’s latest friendly matches against Chile and Honduras and this might be due to the fact that his lack of playing time in PSG is affecting his spot with Brazil.
According toTuttoMercatoWeb, Lucas Moura could make a return to Sao Paulo in January, to the club he used to play for before making a move to PSG. Moura won the 2012 Southamerican Cup with Sao Paulo and it just might be the best move for him to make if the Brazilian wants to get back to his best form and even get a permanent spot in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup.
Lavezzi on the other hand has seen his time in the playing fields diminished after the arrival of Edinson Cavani from Napoli. Arsenal and Tottenham have displayed interested in signing Lavezzi and his lack of games might just see him making a switch to the Premier League.
Speaking to La Parisien, Lavezzi said that he was unsure of his future.
“I do not know what will happen in the future,” said Lavezzi.
“A player never knows exactly all these things. But what I can tell you is that I will do everything to change my situation in Paris because I did not give my best shot and I do not want this to continue.”
The arrival of Edinson Cavani has seen Lavezzi’s time on the sidelines becoming more and more frequent and less influential for PSG.
David Beckham has praised his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson for the way he helped him regain his confidence after the 1998 World Cup.
While playing for the Three Lions in a game against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup, Beckham was shown Red Card because he had kicked out an opposition player. England eventually ended up being defeated in that game in the penalty shootouts and with that defeat; they got knocked out of the tournament as well.
That sending off incident affected Beckham’s image adversely. The English fans started hating him. He also got a few death threats.
According to Beckham, that period was very difficult for him. He had lost his self confidence and he was finding it hard to concentrate on his game but because of the support that he got from Sir Alex Ferguson and the fans of Manchester United, he managed to put his career on track again.
Talking to the reporters a couple of days ago, Beckham said, “It was really a horrible period. All of a sudden, I was a villain in England. People were intimidating me. I was getting death threats too.”
“Sir Alex helped me a lot during that tough period. The Manchester United supporters treated me pretty well too.”
“I am really happy that I managed to come out of that phase. I got stronger as a person after that incident. When you face criticism, you shouldn’t give up. You need to back your capabilities. If you do that, you can leave the difficult periods behind.”
One would definitely not have expected Beckham to give these sorts of statements especially after what Sir Alex has written about him in his recently published book.
In that book, the former Manchester United manager has criticized Beckham for his undisciplined behaviour towards the end of his tenure at Old Trafford.
Former England international David Beckham recently announced his retirement from the sport after several years at the top level. He has been one of the celebrated players in the history of football. He represented the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and PSG during his career. He became the first English player to lift league titles in four different countries. He has also started a wave of excitement in the United States for football. After several years at the top level, Beckham ended his career playing for PSG.
There have been several rumours about what David Beckham is about to do next. Many have been suggesting that he is about to enter into football ownership when he takes stake in the MLS franchise that is about to be started in the next few years. MLS has announced that the league will be getting new teams – up to four – in the next few years. Beckham, though, has commented that it has been a difficult time to be out of football, while the decision was also equally tough as well.
During his stellar career, he managed to win all major trophies. He is also one of the richest sportsmen in the world. He has been rumoured to be on the verge of investing in a franchise located in Florida.
“The toughest decision I had to make was retiring when I have been involved in the sport I love for so many years, playing professional football for 22 years at the highest level. Making that decision, for me, was the toughest. I still question myself, of course, but I am 38 years old… I have had a pretty successful career. I feel it is the right time,” said Beckham. The 38-year-old star represented PSG for six months before retiring at the end of last season.
French club Paris St Germain were reduced to 9 men after David Beckham was sent off just a few minutes after coming on as a substitute. PSG were playing against Evian in the French league and they were leading 1-0 in the match after just 50 min following a goal from Javier Pastore. However, they had defensive midfielder Marco Verratti sent off for a second yellow card. Just when it seemed that things could not get worse for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, Beckham was given a straight red minutes after coming on for a lunge on the Evian player, Youssef Adnane.
After the match, PSG sporting director Leonardo criticised the decision of the referee to give a straight red to Beckham because it was totally unfair. He said that the referee also made several mistakes over the course of the match, but PSG managed to hold on to the victory that has put them one step closer to the title. There was also other dismissals in the match after assistant manager Claude Makelele was sent to the stands as well. Beckham has been at PSG last few months after signing in January on a five month deal. Carlo Ancelotti has been calling for the contract of the former England international to be extended.
“It was always a very tense match. Nobody wanted to lose, especially Evian, who are struggling to stay up. I also believe that our team is really tired at the end of the season,” said Leonardo. As a result of the victory over Evian, PSG have been able to maintain their top position in the league. They are also having a nine-point advantage over second placed Marseille. There are only four games left in the season, which has made PSG the unofficial champions France for the first time.
